About | RAHS Women in Aviation International

Women in Aviation International (WAI) is a nonprofit organization which provides “networking, education, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities for women and men in careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.” In 2015, our very own high school chapter was founded, making us the first ever high school WAI chapter ever. Since then we have created a network of young women within our school and in the community that we support and work with. We hold meetings once a week, as well as outside events at the Tukwila Library once a month, and a Girls’ STEM day in June. Although our club is relatively new, we have been working hard to expand our membership through college workshops and outreach.

WAI meetings, we plan the specifics for big events like Girls STEM day, as well as prepare an itinerary for mentors and mentees. The girls’ mentorship program is a way to for senior members to connect with RAHS girls. WAI provides quality help with resumes, internship applications, essays, and anything that will help students meet their professional and academic goals.

In the fall of 2018, Sydney Brusnighan, a senior member, founded Tech Connect in conjunction with the Tukwila Public Library. Since then, there have been 6 workshops on subjects ranging from CGI Animation to Astronomy the first Thursday of every month. Community engagement and outreach is the core foundation of Women in Aviation, and Tech Connect is an amazing way members can teach kids and impart knowledge. Additionally, every year, WAI organizes a Girls’ STEM Day, where girls from all over the greater Puget Sound area come to RAHS to participate in STEM workshops and learn about a career in STEM. This event takes months of planning, and this year, they are planning to have a speaker to connect with the participants on what it is like to be a woman in STEM. Women in Aviation is involved in many community outreach and gender equality initiatives and values the importance of accessibility and education for all.

We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
